What Is Hibiscus Matcha?
Hibiscus matcha is a layered drink made by combining brewed hibiscus tea with whisked matcha. Hibiscus tea has a naturally tart and fruity flavour, while matcha has a smooth, earthy, and umami-rich taste.
When served over ice, the two create a beautiful pink-to-green gradient that makes this drink especially eye-catching.
For the best drinking experience, use high-quality grade matcha. Bree Ceremonial Matcha is made with 100% organic Japanese matcha sourced from Kagoshima, Japan.
📌Ingredients
📌For the Hibiscus Tea
🍃1 tbsp dried hibiscus flowers or 1 hibiscus tea bag
🍃 150 ml hot water
🍃 1-2 tsp honey or agave, to taste
📌For the Matcha
🍃 3 g Ceremonial Grade Matcha Powder
🍃30 ml warm water, around 80°C
📌To Assemble
🍃 1 cup ice
🍃 100 ml milk of your choice, optional
🍃 Fresh mint or hibiscus flower, for garnish
📌Instructions
🍃1. Make the Hibiscus Tea
Add dried hibiscus flowers or one hibiscus tea bag to 150 ml hot water. Steep for 5–7 minutes. Strain, stir in honey or agave, and allow the tea to cool.
🍃2. Prepare the Matcha
Sift 3g of Bree Ceremonial Matcha into a bowl. Add around 30 ml of warm water at approximately 80°C. Whisk thoroughly in a W-shaped motion until smooth and lightly frothy.
🍃3. Fill Your Glass With Ice
Fill a clear glass with ice. A transparent glass works best for showing the beautiful layers.
🍃4. Add the Hibiscus Layer
Pour the cooled hibiscus tea over the ice, filling around two-thirds of the glass.
🍃5. Add Milk
For a creamy hibiscus matcha latte, slowly pour around 100 ml of your preferred milk over the back of a spoon. Skip the milk for a lighter hibiscus matcha tea.
🍃6. Add the Matcha Layer
Slowly pour the whisked ceremonial matcha over the top to create the signature pink-and-green iced matcha look.
🍃7. Garnish and Enjoy
Finish with fresh mint or a hibiscus flower. Stir gently before sipping.
